Cesarean birth in the United States occurs in over 30% of nulliparous births. This is higher than rates recommended by the World Health Organization and current evidence suggests that a significant number are unnecessary and preventable. The Healthy Birth Initiative: Reducing Primary Cesarean Collaborative aims to reduce unnecessary Cesarean and promote physiologic birth through implementation of safety bundles. This presentation discusses the work of the collaborative and bundle implementation and presents the work of a participating hospital and their outcomes through the first 18 months.
