Understanding The Needs Of The Newborn Who Has Experienced A Hypoxic Insult During Labor: The Relationship Between Hypoxia, Hypoglycemia And Hypothermia.
When a hypoxic insult occurs during labor or birth, a syndrome of consequences often presents as a sequelae. In this lecture we will define hypoxia, hypoglycemia and hypothermia and understand how one of these can create a cascade of consequences involving the other two.
Learning Objectives:
Following this Session, participants will be able to:
Objective 1: Define and understand the basic mechanisms regarding hypoxia, hypothermia and hypoglycemia;
Objective 2: Describe how each of the mentioned complications can lead to the other, creating a syndrome; and
Objective 3: Describe how to protect babies from developing further complications.
