By understanding the current research on the OP presentation the learner will be able to help improve unnecessary cesarean rates due to the lack of progress and/or maternal and newborn morbidity rates. They will learn simple maternal positions that will open each level of the pelvis so the baby can find room for decent and rotation.
Learning Objectives:
Objective 1. Describe current research on Occiput Posterior presentation effects on birth outcomes.
Objective 2. Differentiate a progressing from non-progressing labor patterns and symptoms.
Objective 3. Choose a maternal position to increase the diameter of each pelvic level (inlet, mid, outlet) to encourage rotation and/or descent (Gravity).
